For Granted lyrics by Alice DiMicele, music by Alice DiMicele & Bret Levick
Verse:
Please don’t take my love for granted
I’ll give you all I’ve got and more
can’t you see my heart is planted
In this garden next to yours
Chorus:
Baby please spend a little time with me
cause I need to feel your love tenderly
Verse:
When you go out in this great big World want to keep me on your mind
because I know there’s beauty everywhere what we share is one of a kind
Baby please spend a little time with me cause I need to feel your love tenderly
Bridge:
and all I ask is no pretending if you feel your love’s not true
let me know this thing is ending baby don’t make me a fool
Chorus:
Baby please spend a little time with me
cause I need to feel your love tenderly
Verse:
Please don’t take my love for granted
I’ll give you all I’ve got and more
can’t you see my heart is planted
In this garden next to yours
can’t you see my heart is planted
forever next to yours

Long Dry Winter

Long Dry Winter
by Alice DiMicele
it’s been a long dry winter
I pray the clouds reconsider
and the spring rains deliver us from this drought
in my dream we were walking
There was no use in talking
Ravens flew above mocking and drowned us out
The wailing shatters the silence and these tears fluster the calm Each breath feels like a dagger since you’ve been gone
since you’ve been gone
this year is all about grieving
growing giving receiving
finding new ways of believing beyond all doubt
take my hand and walk beside me i’ll be your guide if you will guide me
the Truth of you still lives inside me and all about
The wailing shatters the silence and these tears fluster the calm Each breath feels like a dagger since you’ve been gone
since you’ve been gone

Free
by Alice DiMicele
when solitude is what i need loneliness becomes my fear
when intimacy’s what i crave sometimes I just run out of here
my hunger makes me vulnerable and that’s what makes me run away
but something in your eyes tells me to stay
something in your eyes tells me to stay
‘cause I can be exactly who I am in every moment
and you don’t judge this reckless fool or let my missed steps foment
from mole hills into mountains no that’s not the way you see
you love the whole of who I am, you love the whole of me
and sometimes the things you do drive me crazy
and sometimes I get on your case, I like to call you lazy
but you must know all the little things you do don’t go unnoticed
and just in case your feeling doubt let’s bring it into focus
‘cause you can be exactly who you are every day and I won’t judge or ridicule your stumbles along the way
l’ll ride these waves of life with you, our love is like the sea
I love the whole of you you are the same way you love me
and we are free
in this love in our love
we are free
in this love in our love
sometimes it’s hard to say how grateful my heart is
and words cannot describe this magic that’s between us
here I am out on this limb dangling from above
you are the fire in my heart my love
you are the fire in my heart my love
and i’m free
in this love, in our love
I am free in this love, in our love
we are free
in this love, in our love we are free
in this love, in our love we are free
we are free
we are free

Alone
by Alice DiMicele
there’s a dark cloud hanging over
there’s a dark cloud come to get me
and I want to leave everything I’ve ever known
there is no one that can save me
there is no pill that can fix me
And there is no drink they can make me not alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
then when the darkness takes over there is no light that can seep through Fog is so thick but I can’t move a bone
Friends offer words to be helpful
lifelines for me to grab onto
but nothing seems to change the fact that I’m alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
i wanna run i wanna hide i want somebody to bring me back home
i wanna run i wanna hide im so tired of being
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone
Now I just sit in this corner
and wait for the wind to get warmer maybe this cloud will blow over and go
until then if you’d like to help me
pull up a chair right beside me
i’ll still be depressed but I won’t be alone
Alone, alone, alone, alone, alone

Sunrise
by Alice DiMicele
I want to walk with you at sunset see the pretty colored skies
I want to sleep with you in our bed wake up early to catch the sunrise
‘cause there is magic in each moment I get to spend with you
The world is crazy did you notice sometimes everything is out of tune
some people just talk all the time but they’ve got nothing to say
when we listen to the quiet mind we find a better way to communicate
I wanna swim with you and in summer, I wanna surf with you in fall
I wanna be your favorite lover and what I’ve got I’ll share it all
‘cause there is magic in each moment I get to hold your hand
The world is crazy did you notice but I still want to join the band
some people just take all the time, they don’t ever give a thing
when your slave to a greedy mind you don’t even feel a thing or the joy that love can bring
I want to walk with you at sunset see the pretty colored skies
I want to sleep with you in our bed wake up early to catch the sunrise
wake up early to catch the sunrise
Let’s wake up early to catch the sunrise
the sunrise

Rise
by Alice DiMicele
nothing can prepare you for those flames so hot
we think it’s easy to let go of it all till it’s not
and nobody can fix it that’s the nature of pain
grief rolls through our lives and we’re never the same
so grab onto this hand I reach out to you
alone we are lost together will pull through
and cry all your tears
let the sky rain upon you and wash out your eyes
cry all your tears and when they dry
spread your wings like to phoenix and rise
someday when the smoke clears, we’ll see what remains
seeds left out in the rubble will sprout towards the sun
but let your heart wail now and let your soul scream
let those seeds in the rubble become your new dream
and take hold of this hand i reach out to you
alone we are lost together we’ll pull thru
cry all your tears
let the sky rain upon you and wash out your eyes
cry all your tears and when they dry
spread your wings like to phoenix and ri
cry all your tears
let the sky rain upon you and wash out your eyes
cry all your tears and when they dry
spread your wings like to phoenix and rise
nothing can prepare you for a fire that hot
we think it’s easy to let go of it all but it’s not
so grab hold of these hands we reach out to you
alone we are lost together will pull through

Communication
by Alice DiMicele
communication’s a skill I’ve yet to master, so i’m trying to tell you in a song
how sorry I am that I’ve hurt you
how much I regret the things that I’ve done wrong
Ten years sounds like a long time, gone by in the wink of an eye
we’ve walked many miles with our loving
weathered her storms and rejoiced under clear blue skies
and that joy is in our hearts it can’t be bought or sold or lost
she hides with innocence in there waiting patiently for nurturing and care
and if we give her what she needs she’ll blossom like any other seed
but if we water our mistrust that vine will spread and choke what’s left of us
what I’m trying to say here is that I love you and I think it’s time for a little faith we got a wake up every morning trusting love to see us through the day communication’s a skill I’ve yet to master, so I’ll try to tell you in a song
how sorry I am that I’ve hurt you
how much I regret the things that I’ve done wrong

Dispatch
by Alice DiMicele
I work the night shift I dispatch emergencies
Old man’s life alert sent a signal so I sent out the police
He said I don’t need your help and I’d like for you to leave
They stood outside his door yelling open up so they could see
He said, “I don’t need you, I don’t want you I pushed the button by mistake
This is my home this is my house won’t you please just go away”
And so he called me back and said these cops outside they want me dead
I radioed for them to back off but they broke down his door instead
And I don’t know how to say what happened next
First a taser than the beanbags in a live rounds in the chest
And the officer yelling N-word Yes this is what I heard
That a black man is unsafe in his own house Is so absurd
and He said, “I don’t need you, I don’t want you I pushed the button by mistake
This is my home this is my house won’t you please just go away”
Kenneth Chamberlain was a 68 year old retired Marine He Worked 20 years in corrections and he raised a family
It makes no sense but he was murdered right there in his home
and the cops can lie all they want but I heard it all on the phone
I heard every N-word, I heard it on the phone
I heard every word, I heard it all on the phone
He said, “I don’t need you I don’t want you I pushed the button by mistake
This is my home this is my house won’t you please just go away”

Jersey
by Alice DiMicele
I grew up in Jersey go head, make a joke
I don’t care what you think cause I know things that you don’t know
I grew up in Jersey and it made me who i am
i see things here much different than you can
you see things in black and white. i see shades of beige and brown
i’m not aiming for a fight. i don’t wanna keep you down
i come from the smorgasbord where everybody knows their name
we aren’t just colors on a chart we’re from the places our ancestors came
and some of us are mixed up
and we feel lost at sea
we’ve gotta lift each other up
cause we all need to be free
some of us survivors
of genocide and hate
our stories cry a warning
we must heed before its too damn late
we must heed before its too damn late
we must heed before its too late
I grew up in Jersey go head, make a joke
every single exit is someone’s Happy Home
yeah i grew up in Jersey and it made me who i am
i see things here much different than you can
there are those who only know greed, it’s like a fever taking hold
and if we let the sick people lead down to their hell is where we’ll go
but if we follow the words of the kind and let love rule the day
use our hearts as well as our minds we just might find our way
we just might find our way
I grew up in Jersey go head, make a joke
I don’t care what you think cause I know things that you don’t know
I grew up in Jersey and it made me who i am
i see things different than you can
and you see things different than I can
We all see things different
We all see things different
I grew up in Jersey, Jersey, Jersey

Sweet Elaine
by Alice DiMicele
she thought that she knew what true love was then she looked into those eyes
and she could see she was in for another surprise
somehow he looked right through her and she could see in his soul
and all that was broke in his presence became whole
sweet Elaine used to travel on buses and trains
but he rules they were clear no dogs allowed here so she changed
sweet Elaine used to drag her past round like a chain
but that burden ran off when a Saint with four paws staked his claim
he looks so proud walking beside her and her eyes sparkle with love
you’d never know they were lonely before they linked up
some folks are searching for romance others just need a true friend
every heart knows real love when it comes around the bend
sweet Elaine used to travel on buses and planes
Though the rules they were clear no dogs allowed here so she changed
sweet Elaine used to drag her past round like a chain
but that burden ran off when a Saint with four paws staked his claim
and you might not believe me think I’m making it up
that just tells me you’ve never known good dog love
Now that she knows what true love is she’ll hold onto it tight
and with her best friend the world seems a little more right
somehow he still looks right through her and she still sees in his soul
and they’re broken pieces together became whole
sweet Elaine used to travel on buses and trains
but the rules they were clear no dogs allowed here so she changed
sweet Elaine used to drag her past round like a chain
but that burden ran off when a Saint with four paws staked his claim
on sweet Elaine.

Every Seed
by Alice DiMicele
every seed we plant is love, every seed we plant is life
we must gather seeds to plant, we must gather seeds to share
it’s how our people survived the past and it’s how our children go on from here
every seed we plant is life, every seed we plant is peace
when the winds of hatred blow and the drums of war resound
we must care for those in need and we must search for common ground
every seed we plant is peace, every seed we plant is hope
we must nurture living soil, we must give thanks for the rain
in this work we find our joy, every breath we breathe through Grace
every seed we plant is hope, every seed we plant is love
